Nita Overton Obituary

Nita Mae Overton VIRGINIA BEACH - Nita Mae Overton joined Jesus Christ, her Lord in heaven, at 6:55 a.m. June 14, 2009. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard R. Overton, MGY9, retired U.S. Marine Corps. She leaves behind her daughter, Sharon Holdt and husband Verne and grandchildren, Dustin Holdt (wife Traci) and Danielle Holdt, all of San Jose, Calif. She will be sorely missed by her two sisters and one brother, Vita R. Dorn, husband Ken, and Dora L. McLawhorn, both of Virginia Beach, and James A. Merritt, wife Pat, of Webster, Mass.; also nieces, Cynthia L. Sykes (husband Dan) of Chesapeake, Shirley M. Smith (husband Randy) of Annapolis, Md.; and nephews, Rahn McLawhorn of Virginia Beach and Ralph A. Dorn of Fayetteville, N.C. Nita loved ceramics and once had her own ceramics shop where she made many friends. She also would teach folks the fine art of making and painting ceramics and making porcelain dolls. Nita was known for her quick wit and ability to make all who loved her laugh. Nita was very proud of her service to the Marine Corps Auxiliary of which she was past national president. The one great love of her life is interred at Arlington National Cemetery--and Nita will join him there. Her family, friends and neighbors will miss Nita very much, but we all know that she is in a much better place surrounded by people who knew her when she was younger and in good health. God speed, Nita, we will miss you so much. A funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, with pastor Richard Pickens officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009, in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Word and Worship Fellowship, Building Fund, 1420 Handcross Way, Virginia Beach, VA 23456. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
