Ann Shapiro Obituary

Ann L. Shapiro NORFOLK - Ann Levitt Shapiro, 94, passed away peacefully, Monday, June 15, 2009, in a local hospital. She was a native of Minneapolis and was a resident of Norfolk since 1955. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Celia Singer Levitt and the widow of Morris Shapiro. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family who will always cherish her memory and her wonderful sense of style. Nothing pleased her more than the time spent with family and friends. She was a member of Temple Israel. Survivors include her daughters, Ilene Swartz and her husband Franklin of Virginia Beach and Elaine Shapiro of Washington, D.C.; her sister, Charlotte Londer and her husband Bob of Tucson, Ariz.; and her brothers, Arnold Levitt, Arthur Levitt and his wife Beatrice and Albert Levitt, all of Minneapolis; brother-in-law, Harry Shapiro and his wife Sarah of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Marion Weisler of St. Paul, Minn.; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Swartz and his wife Jean, Pam Swartz and her husband Bill and Howard Swartz and his wife Brooke; and five great-grandchildren, Michael, Rachel and Joe Swartz and Josh and Max Swartz; many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held today at 1 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Rabbi Michael Panitz. The family will sit Shivah following the service at 4520 Bob Jones Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23462 and Thursday, June 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. with services at 6 p.m. each evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Swartz Library at Temple Israel or the charity of the donor's choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk chapel, is handling arrangements. Dear family...
I am sad to know Mrs. Shapiro has passed away.
I will miss calling her for her great recipes,and seeing her here at the Algonquin House always dressed in style.

Ilene,Lin,Elaine and all your kids- Please accept our deepest sympathy. I will always remember Auntie Ann for her regal style and the interest she always took in our lives even though she lived in Norfolk. She came to all of our simchas and encouraged us to come to Norfolk. We will miss her and cherish her memory.
