Mary Clayton Obituary

Mary Kathryn Clayton VIRGINIA BEACH - Mary Kathryn Clayton was called home to be with the Lord Monday, June 15, 2009, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Mary was born to Betty Ann and Clifford Wright in Ohio Aug. 16, 1947. She grew up in Ohio and Indiana, and moved to Virginia in 1971. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister. Mary was a speech and language pathologist for Virginia Beach City Public Schools for 19 years and touched the lives of many students in our community. She was an active member of Thalia United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach where she celebrated her faith in the Lord. Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Gary Clayton; four children, Tricia Clayton of Atlanta, Geoffrey Clayton of Virginia Beach, Darren Clayton of Atlanta, and Laura Clayton of Arlington, Va.; father, Clifford Wright of Bradenton, Fla.; and brothers, Steven Wright of Lakeland, Fla., and Donald Wright of Tampa, Fla. A celebration of Mary's life will be held Friday, June 19, at 4 p.m. in Thalia United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at pancan.org. Arrangements are entrusted to H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel.
