Mary Sumner PORTSMOUTH - Mary Sumner, 81, of Chesapeake, passed away June 16, 2009, in Portsmouth. A native of Chesapeake, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Josephine Szymanski and the widow of Frank Sumner. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She is survived by her two sons, Frank Sumner and Stanley Sumner and his wife Stephanie of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren, Frank Sumner III of Chesapeake, Shannon Lowe of Amelia, Va., Jimmy Nelms of Richmond, Va., Ashley Sumner, Kelsey Sumner and Logan Sumner, all of Virginia Beach; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Jo Palmer and her son, Robert "Bobby" Sumner. A funeral will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Snellings Funeral Home George, Washington Highway Chapel. The burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
