Frederick Townsend Obituary

Frederick D. Townsend VIRGINIA BEACH - Frederick Dean Townsend, 76, passed away June 18, 2009. He was born in Breckenridge, Mo., Aug. 26, 1932, to the late Walter and Nettie Townsend. Fred served his country in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a chief petty officer after 23 years of dedicated service. After his Navy career, Fred worked for Tri City Supply Co. for nearly 20 years. Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. He was a family man, a loyal husband and dedicated father. Fred was predeceased by his loving wife of 30 years, Alice Townsend; and a son, Paul Townsend. Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Barry Townsend and his wife Lisa of Alabama, and Robert Townsend and his wife Heather of Stafford; daughter, Cindy Fox and her husband David of Virginia Beach; sister, Katherine Kemp of Missouri; his 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; his best friends who were considered family, Sonny and Joan Smith and their children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, in Rosewood Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Rob Pittman. Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics of Virginia. Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. You may offer condolences at www.mem.com.
