Frances Cherry Obituary

Frances Dority Cherry PORTSMOUTH - Frances Dority Cherry, 84, died in her home June 25, 2009. She was born in Marion, Va., the daughter of Walter and Maude Dority. She was raised in Portsmouth, graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, and worked at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Frances was a devoted wife and mother, a fantastic cook and a generous friend. She loved spending time on the beach in Kill Devil Hills. Frances was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, L. Rosser Cherry. Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Cherry Richardson and husband Branch and Cydney Cherry Cavender and husband Neil; two grandchildren, Tracy Rooney and Randy Schofield; and two great-granddaughters, Lauren and Elyse Rooney. Visitation will be at Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Churchland Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to Churchland Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society. Online condolances may be made at www.lovingfuneralhome.com.
