Lawrence Piper Obituary

Lawrence L. Piper VIRGINIA BEACH - Lawrence Leon Piper, 72, passed away June 24, 2009, in a local hospital. Mr. Piper was a native of Detroit, and lived in the Virginia Beach area for 31 years. Larry worked for the United Way for more than 28 years, 18 of those years he was the Director of Finance. He was a member of St. John's the Apostle Catholic Church where he served on the school board and finance committee. He was a youth sports coach for many years, a member of the Lions Club, an avid bowler, and a dedicated University of Michigan fan. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Carol Ann Piper; a son, Keith Piper and his wife Kimberly of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Jennifer Piper of Midlothian, Va.; two sisters, Carol Ann Piper of Sterling Heights, Mich., and Kathleen Gallagher of Macomb, Mich.; and three grandchildren, Kyle, Katie and Korinne. Larry was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. in St. John's the Apostle Catholic Church Sunday, June 28. A funeral Mass will be held Monday at 10 a.m. by Father J. Morton Biber. The family will again receive friends one hour prior to the funeral beginning at 9 a.m. at the church. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.hdoliver.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to St. John's the Apostle Catholic Church.

Aunt Carol, Keith and Jenny,

I am so saddened by Uncle Larry's passing. He was truly a wonderful man. I wish we had been able to see him more often than we did. He and the whole family are in my thoughts and prayers.
He will be missed by all of us here in Michigan.
