"Jimmy" graduated from Northampton High School, Eastville, Va., in 1957. He attended Ferrum Junior College, Lynchburg College, and Duke University. He entered the ministry of the Methodist Church in 1963 as a student pastor to a small rural church in Franklin Co. while a student at Ferrum. He continued serving churches as he completed his education. He served as pastor to 16 churches in the Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church for more than 41 years. One of the highlights of his career was his association with Volunteers in Mission. Dear Donna and family,
We were shocked to hear of Jim's death. We have such fond memories of him at Trinity. He and Warren had such fun while Jim taught Warren to fly remote control planes! Our fondest memory will be our weekend at Lake Gaston (or almost weekend, as he had to be back for Sunday services) and Jim on the Innertube behind the ski boat! His smile and laughter was contagious.
We are keeping you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. Please call if you need anything.
Love,
Warren and Joanne

Donna and Family,
I hope you will not mind an email response. Jim and a number of us shared breakfast and occasional golf in Virginia Beach when Jim was at Oak Grove and I was at Salem. His smile and friendliness and always great humor was a blessing to me and so many.
We cannot imagine your shock and sorrow. It is a great loss to so many.
My prayers have been and continue to be with you all.

To the Ward family,

I want to believe that Jim didn't pass away; instead, I'd like to believe he's out on the back nine, waiting to finish an under-par 18 holes. Jim was a true gentle person; he had a good word for everyone. May God Bless him and his family....he went all too soon.

Dear Donna,

We are so sorry about Jim's death. We are writing to express our deepest sympathy to you and your family. We had many good times together on mission trips, and on the Norfolk District, and speaking in your churches in northern Virginia. You have been very special friends for us. Now we pray God's blessings on you through this very difficult time.

Love,

Prayers to Jim's family. Jim holds a special place in our hearts as he was the minister that married Sherri and I almost 20 years ago at Trinity.
