John Ewing Obituary

John L. Ewing Jr. CHESAPEAKE - John L. Ewing, 63, of Chesapeake, passed away June 28, 2009, in his home. A native of Portsmouth, he was the son of the late Gladys and John L. Ewing Sr. He retired from the Portsmouth Police Department as a police officer after 14 years of service. He was formerly employed with the Portsmouth Sheriff Department for four years. He belonged to the Retired Police and Firefighters Association in Portsmouth. He is survived by his wife, Linda L. Ewing; one stepdaughter, Tina Haymaker of Virginia Beach; two sons, Ed Ewing and Paul Ewing, both of Portsmouth; two stepsons, Donald Smith and Bradley Smith, both of Tennessee; a sister, Frances June Evans of New York, a brother, Bill Ewing and wife Becky of Keysville, Va.; and 10 grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
