Edna Wright Obituary

Edna A. Wright EDENTON - Edna Ashley Wright, 86, of the 100 block of Jackson St., died Friday, July 3, 2009, in Rex Hospital, Raleigh, N.C. Mrs. Wright was born in Chowan County and the daughter of the late Robert L. and Callie Harris Ashley. Retired from the General Electric Co. in Portsmouth, she also worked at the Edenton Cotton Mill and was a member of First Christian Church of Edenton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, McKinley F. Wright Sr.; her daughter, Rita Wright Brown; three sisters, Ona Moore, Doris Ambrose Harrell and Maxine Basnight; and two brothers, Robert "Ervin" Ashley and Murray Ashley. Surviving are her son, McKinley F. "Mac" Wright Jr. and wife Ann of Cary; her son-in-law, Robert L. "Bob" Brown Sr. of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Angie Brown Layden, Robert L. "Buddy" Brown Jr. and wife Christine, Sandi Wright and Sherry Brown; and four great-grandchildren, Mark Richardson, Steven Flowers, Erica Keasler and Kayla Layden. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, and will be officiated by her nephew, Jack Sawyer. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at the residence.
