Elizabeth Duck Obituary

Elizabeth Jane Keel Duck NORFOLK - Elizabeth Jane Keel Duck was born and raised in Abilene, Kan., July 30, 1915, the daughter of the late Howard W. Keel and Jessie Fitzpatrick Keel. She died June 20, 2009. At the University of Arizona, from which she graduated in 1937, she met her life's love, the late Donald Curtis Duck. She is survived by her brother, Robert D. Keel of Grand Blanc, Mich.; her two children, Susan Duck Haugh and Stephen C. Duck; her five grandchildren, Jacob A. Haugh, Rachel E. Haugh, Jennifer Duck, Elizabeth R. Duck, and Sarah Ann W. Duck; and three great-grandchildren, Gunnar A. and Ingrid E. Berling-Haugh, and Erik D. Duck; and her stepgrandson, Daniel C. Thompson. Jane was a 68-year resident of Indianapolis where she was an active member of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, The Indianapolis Day Nursery, Pi Beta Phi Fraternity, the Junior League, a subscriber to the Indianapolis Symphony, and a volunteer with the Indianapolis Art Museum. Next to her family, she delighted most in her years at Hawthorn Hill where she loved cooking, gardening, horseback riding, and picnics at the cabin; she was renowned for her homemade caramels, strawberry preserves, chili sauce, and awesome apple sauce. In October 2007, she moved from The Forum at the Crossing in Indianapolis to Harbor's Edge in Norfolk. The family is grateful for the kindness of all who cared for her. On Monday, July 6, at 2 p.m., a memorial service will be held at Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was a member since December 2008. The family requests gifts in her memory be made to Heifer International at www.Heifer.org. Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby Street Chapel, are handling arrangements.
