Chester Carpenter Obituary

Chester E. Carpenter CHESAPEAKE - Chester Edmond "Chet" Carpenter, 88, of the 100 block of Red Oak Trail, went to be with the Lord on July 4, 2009 in Chesapeake. A native of Charleston, W.Va., he was the son of the late Arthur E. and Edith Casadorph Carpenter and husband of the late Reba Mae Burford Carpenter. He retired as an ad foreman after 42 years with The Virginian-Pilot newspaper and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and its Men's Bible Class. He is survived by his son, Daniel E. Carpenter and his wife Ruth Anne of Newport News; three grandchildren, Tina Goodwin and her husband Chris, Stephanie Carpenter and Daniel E. Carpenter II; three great-grandchildren, Christopher Goodwin, Matthew Goodwin and Gracie Goodwin; and was predeceased by a sister, Carmel Martin of Macon, Ga. A funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Immanuel Baptist Church, 1012 Battlefield Blvd., N. with the Rev. David Libengood officiating. Entombment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. I was very saddened to learn of Uncle Chet's passing. I have very fond memories of him when I was a child. Whenever we would visit he would always give my brother and I silver dollars. He will be missed. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
