Lillian Harris Obituary

Lillian Virginia Harris CHESAPEAKE - Lillian Virginia Harris, 95, passed away peacefully July 5, 2009. Lillian was born Oct. 12, 1913 in Staunton, Va. She was a longtime resident of Norfolk. Lillian was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Roger L. Harris Sr.; father, Charles Augusta Porterfield; mother, Bessie Sarah Strother Porterfield; and siblings, Elizabeth (Libby), Kathleen (Kackic), John, Marie, Randolph and Dorothy (Dot). Lillian is survived by her brother, Ralph E. Porterfield; son, Roger L. Harris Jr. and wife, Mary Ann; daughter, Beverly H. Hodges; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Lillian Harris was a member of Norview Baptist Church. She retired from the City of Norfolk at age 62. The family would like to extend their appreciation to her daughter Beverly, as the primary caregiver for 17 years; a special niece, Ellen Williams; Sentara Hospice Group in particular, Dr. Patterson, Charlotte, Renee, Toni, Doris and Chaplain Franklin See. Although flowers are welcomed, donations may also be made in Mrs. Harris' name to Norview Baptist Church. A funeral will be conducted Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, with Chaplain Franklin See officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
