Frank Powell Obituary

Frank Powell Sr. NORFOLK - Frank Powell Sr., 74, of the 900 block of Albert Ave., passed away July 4, 2009, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 18, 1935, to the late Nannie B. and Isreal "Bud" Powell in Littleton, N.C. He was educated in the Littleton Public School system. Frank retired as a longshoreman from ILA Local 1248 after 28 years. He was predeceased by a brother, Willie R. Powell. He is survived by his wife, Christine G. Powell; three daughters, Linda D. Brooks (Leroy), Cynthia P. Doxey (Clyde) and Terri D. Powell; one son, Frank Powell Jr. (Denene); two sisters, Evelyn Bowser (Julian) and Dorothy Lester; five grandchildren, Corey G. Doxey (Rashanda), Catrina R. Doxey, Clyde L. Doxey III, Tinita Wilder and Allen Powell; five great-grandchildren, Khayla Doxey, Kiah Doxey, Khimani Wilson, Kaci Doxey and Trenton Wilder; mother-in-law, Ella Mae Gallop; cousins, Mary and George Postell; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St. The Rev. Clyde Doxey will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at 911 Albert Ave. one hour prior to service for procession to the chapel. Condolences may be offered at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.
