He enjoyed friendships made while in service, and while employed by Newport News Shipbuilding, NNSY Fire Department, DFAS, and Joint Forces Staff College, and more recently with his close circle of friends known as "the barn gang." He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Dana E. Lopez; daughters, Melissa and Laura; son, Christopher and wife Rebecca; granddaughters, Kaylee and Lilly; father, Jose G. Lopez; mother, Elena E. Lopez; brothers, Jose Jr. and wife Alice and Juan Lopez; sisters, Sylvia Carranza and husband Joe and Anna Lane and husband Russell; mother-in-law, Mary Edgerton; and brother-in-law, Jeff Edgerton and wife Roxane. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Mike was predeceased by his sister, Magdalena Lopez Munoz. A celebration of Mike's life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, in the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, followed by a family remembrance in Houston at a later date. The family extends deep personal gratitude to Dr. Charles Reninger, and gives special thanks to the AIC and Oncology staffs of PNH, and to Chesapeake Regional Home Care Services. Mike simply wished "to be remembered as a good man." Friends are invited to send condolences and to sign the online guest book at www.omanfh.com.
