William Abel Obituary

William Thomas Abel VIRGINIA BEACH - William Thomas Abel, 82, died Thursday, July 9, 2009, after a courageous battle with COPD and ALS at home with the love of his family. Bill was born in Fairchance, Pa., to loving parents William Earl and Elma. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 58 years, Ann Marie Abel. He will be truly missed by daughter, Pam Lamoree and her husband Patrick; granddaughters, Tiffany Meece and her husband Henry and Kimberly Hulse; "His Goofers," great-grandchildren, Zachary, Annastasia and Amanda; his sisters, Edith, Marie, Florence, Linda and Beulah; brothers, Lester, David and Jim; brother-in-law, Ed; and many other relatives and friends. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and retired after 22 years; later he retired from civil service. Bill enjoyed hunting, carving, fishing and golfing. He was a member of the Swindler Golf Club, the Fleet Reserve Branch 099, and VFW Post 7219 in Pennsylvania. A special thank you to all his many dear friends and caregivers for their love, support and prayers during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MDA/ALS Foundation. Viewing will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, July 16, at 11 a.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, with Chaplain Andrew McHanamen. Burial will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com. Our love is always with you until we meet again!
