Leatha Wooton Obituary

Leatha Wooton ELIZABETH CITY - Leatha Wooton, loving mother, supportive sister, considerate friend, and faithful wife, left us Friday, July 10, 2009, following a brief illness. Leatha was born in Lowland, N.C., in 1933 to the late Ollie and Jonah Lewis. Happily married to Frank Holcombe for the past 15 months, Leatha was formerly the wife of the late Harold L. Wooton for 48 years. Leatha and Harold resided in Yorktown, Norfolk, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba before settling in Elizabeth City off Main Street Extended, where they successfully raised five children. Leatha selflessly inspired confidence in her children, shared in their joys, consoled in their sorrows, and glorified God by the life she lived. Although family was foremost in her life, Leatha also had a fulfilling career as business manager at Guardian Care Nursing Home for 22 years and later as secretary of City Road United Methodist Church. Mourning her unexpected departure are her children, Larry Lewis Wooton and wife Pam, Barbara Wooton Wilson and husband Mack, Jamie Harold Wooton and wife Barbie, Linda Wooton Cramer and husband Stevens, Marcus Ray Wooton and wife Cathy, and Frank Holcombe Jr. and wife Kay; grandchildren, Ginger and husband Roy, Andrea, Ryan, Amanda, Patrick, Jaxon, Hartley, Jeremy, Taylor and Little Jamie; a great-granddaughter, Alexis; two sisters, Doris Riddle and husband Ashby and Derlie James and husband Bob; two brothers, Marcus Lewis and wife Rose and Juston Lewis and wife Roxana; and numerous other family members and friends. Along with her parents and her first husband, Leatha was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua, and her sister, Mae Scheier and husband Doc. All who wish to pay respects are invited to join her family from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St. A celebration of Leatha's happy life will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at City Road United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at the residence, 2714 West Main St., Extended, Elizabeth City. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.twifordfh.com.

I worked with Miss Leatha at Albemarle Eye Care Center many years ago and she was such a hoot to be with! Always a smile and always a story to tell. She was a woman of great faith and that is what I admired about her the most. I pray for you all peace and comfort during this difficult time. God Bless.

Linda,

I was very sorry to hear about the loss of you mom. Mothers and Fathers are the special people in our lives that nurtue us when we are small, guide us as young adults and keep us grounded once we become adults. May you and your family remember all of the good times and keep a special place in your heart for your mom.
