Marie Ratchford Obituary

Marie Owens Ratchford MANTEO - Marie Owens Ratchford, 93, died Monday, July 13, 2009, at the Outer Banks Hospital. Born Nov. 7, 1915, in Columbia, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Robert Valentine Owens and Martha Ida Alexander Owens. Mrs. Ratchford was a homemaker, a member of Manteo Baptist Church and a longtime member of the Rebekah Lodge No. 152. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, "Bubbles" Daniels; two sisters, Alma Doty and Thelma Snell; a brother, Leon Owens; husbands, Robert P. Huffstetler Jr., formerly of Gastonia, N.C., George R. Ratchford, formerly of Gastonia, and Roy W. Wescott, formerly of Manteo. She is survived by a son, Roy Wescott Jr. and wife Kathy of Manteo; a brother, Robert V. "Bobby" Owens Jr. of Manteo; a sister, Clara Mae Shannon of Manteo; a son-in-law, John W. "Bill" Daniels of Manteo; seven grandchildren, Karen Dane of Manteo, Ken Daniels of Manteo, Karla Farquarson of Gastonia, Kimberly Hunt of Greensboro, N.C., Julie Wescott of Richland, Mo., Angela Sanders of Hephzibah, Ga., and Victor Wescott of Hawaii; two step-grandchildren, Wendy Gyellenhoff of Richmond, Va., and Joe Roland of Seattle; and 15 great-grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held at Manteo Baptist Church Thursday, July 16, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ken Simpson officiating. Burial will be in the Manteo Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo, Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bubbles Daniels Scholarship Fund, c/o Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, P.O. Roy and Family,
I'm so sorry to hear about Marie. All of the sisters are together now and will be terribly missed. Mom has been very ill but we're going to try to make the service. You take care and you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
