Edwin Emerson Obituary

Edwin Neal Emerson NEWPORT NEWS - Edwin Neal Emerson, 55, died unexpectedly Monday, June 29, 2009, while enjoying time on the water. Mr. Emerson was a native and longtime resident of Newport News. He was a very talented man, a "jack of all trades." He had a great love for the water and boating but most of all he loved his daughter, Sarah. Survivors include his daughter, Sarah Jayne Emerson; mother of Sarah, Pamela Hahn, both of Chesapeake; his father, Thomas "Nel" Nelson Emerson of Newport News; a brother, Thomas "Tommy" Nelson Emerson Jr. and his wife Debbie of Poquoson; nieces and nephews, Dana Burgess, Sonny Emerson, Rob Hunt and Renee Hirsch; and a longtime companion and friend, Susan Grunewald. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby W. Emerson. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 16, 2009, at 11 a.m. at W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, Newport News, followed by visitation until noon. Burial is private. Arrangements by W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
