Constance Laign Obituary

Constance B. Laign VIRGINIA BEACH - Constance B. Laign, 83, of Atlantic Shores, Sandbridge, Va., died July 13, 2009. Mrs. Laign was a native of Paw Paw, W.Va., residing over the years in Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and for the past 20-plus years in Sandbridge, Va. Educated at West Virginia University (B.A.) and the University of Pittsburgh (M.ed.), Connie taught home economics and distributive education prior to serving in administrative and principal roles in the Bethel Park School District in Bethel Park, Pa. She was an active participant with the Sandbridge Civic Association and supporter of the Sandbridge Rescue Squad, King's Daughters, and the local chapter of retired educators. She also served as a volunteer at Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital and was a past advisory board member of St. John the Apostle Elementary School. Survivors include a daughter, Melissa A. Hogan and a son, Michael B. Laign and his wife Kathie; a sister, Jane Slusher of Bowie, Md.; a granddaughter, Leslie Hogan; and six grandsons, Brent Hogan, Scott Hogan, Paul Hogan, Andy Laign, Kevin Laign and Michael Laign. A Mass of Christian funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 1968 Sandbridge Road, Virginia Beach. Burial will follow in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be directed to the Sandbridge Volunteer Rescue Squad, 305 Sandbridge Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hdoliver.com.
