Dennis Bailey Obituary

Dennis N. Bailey KILMARNOCK - Dennis Norwood Bailey, 85, died Aug. 1, 2009. Mr. Bailey was born Sept. 9, 1923, in Everetts, N.C., and raised in Everetts and Williamston, N.C. He was also a Virginia Beach resident for a number of years before retiring in the Northern Neck of Virginia. He served in the Navy from 1944-1946 and worked at the Naval Air Station from 1946-1978. He later joined the Air Force Reserves, serving 23 years and retired from the reserves as a member of the OSI unit. He served in Korea April 1951 to Sept. 1952. He served 35 years in civil service which took him to the Far East (Philippines) as a Director of Public Works, 1970-1976. In 1976 he obtained his real estate license and later his brokers license, managing several firms in Virginia Beach, Higgins, Bay Mark and Apollo before going on to become a licensed real estate appraiser and opening his own firm Dennis Bailey & Associates in Virginia Beach. Mr. Bailey had been a member of the Norview Masonic Lodge 113 in Norfolk for 58 years. He was a member Kilmarnock Baptist Church, the Aeronautical Society, and a licensed pilot since 1947. He was predeceased by his first wife, Sue Margaret Keeter Bailey of Merry Hill, N.C. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Bailey Bright and Winnie Bailey Lewis Huber both of Greenville, N.C.; two sisters, Blanche A. Bailey Cox and Patricia L. Bailey Sullivan; four grandchildren, Dennise Bright Cox of Charlotte N.C., Morgan Bright Herr of Richmond, Travis Bright of Greenville, N.C., and Kerry Lewis of Richmond; a niece, Diane Sullivan of Virginia Beach; a nephew, Thomas Cox of Roanoke; three great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Cox of Charlotte, N.C., Mason and Emerson Herr, both of Richmond. He is also survived by his wife, Linda Harmon Enders-Bailey of Kilmarnock. A funeral will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at Kilmarnock Baptist Church, Kilmarnock. Interment private. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, with a Masonic Memorial Service at 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Kilmarnock Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, Animal Welfare League and American Lung Association.
