Ernestine Alberti Obituary

Ernestine O. Alberti CHESAPEAKE - Ernestine Obera Alberti, 88, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at her home, surrounded by family. Born in Pineville, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Ivy Owen Wicker and Minnie Neal Wicker and was the widow of Anthony M. Alberti Sr. She was predeceased by a sister, Marbrie Hammond and a brother, Norman Wicker. A lover of life, she was known for her culinary skills, line dancing, playing bingo, reading and working crossword puzzles. Ernestine was very proud to be associated with the Red Hat Society. An avid sports fan, she will be remembered for her love of all sports, especially anything relating to her grandchildren and Virginia Tech. She is survived by her sister, Lucille Henander; four daughters, Loma Jean Lambert and husband Sandy, Norma Lou Staley and husband Tommy, Deborah J. Alberti and Elisha A. Davis and her husband Curtis; one son, Anthony M. "Tony" Alberti Jr. and his wife Denise; grandchildren, E'Beth Watts, Mark B. Lambert, Kathy Norton, Wayne Norton, Susan Norton, Kyle A. Alberti and Owen M. Alberti; as well as great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 7, in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens by Father Joseph H. Metzger III. The viewing will begin Thursday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Memorial contributions may be made the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association or to the local SPCA. The family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to the hospice team and homecare staff, Rita Lawson, Francis Harris, Lorraine Hanchard and Maurene Patterson for the love and care given to Mrs. Alberti. Friends are also invited to send condolences and sign the online guestbook at www.omanfh.com.

Debbie and Tony and family members, We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. We have such fond memories of a gentle lady who always had goodies in her purse for all the kids at the softball games. All the wonderful memories she provided for so many people will allow her to stay alive in our hearts forever. She will be missed and we are all lucky to have had her in our lives. We love you!
