James O'Leary Obituary

James M. O'Leary Sr. CHESAPEAKE - James M. "Red" O'Leary Sr., 73, of Jackson Avenue, passed away Monday, Aug. 3, 2009. Born in Norfolk, he was the son of the late Michael J. Sr. and Thelma S. O'Leary. Red retired from NORSHIPCO after 45 years, where he was a marine electric supervisor. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Mary B. O'Leary; three sons, Hugh Sherwood III and wife Tina, Mark Sherwood and Belinda, James M. O'Leary Jr. and wife Karla; a daughter, Debbie Sherwood; grandchildren, Mark Jr., Karina, Justin, Sheila, Patrick, Sean and Michaela; great-grandchildren, Lauryn, Alexis, Christalina and Mahki; a brother, Michael J. O'Leary Jr. and wife Shirley. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Francis Gay Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 1146 Rodgers St., Chesapeake. The Rev. Amos Eby will officiate. The interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The viewing will begin today with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
