Lee Conduff Obituary

Lee Smith Conduff VIRGINIA BEACH - Lee Smith Conduff, 96, peacefully died Aug. 14, 2009, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. She was born April 30, 1913, in Springfield, Ohio, to later grow up in an orphanage in Elkin, W.Va. "Gran," as she was affectionately called by many, leaves to cherish her memory three children: daughter, Brenda Smith Rawls, husband Dr. H.C. Rawls III of Virginia Beach, William H. Smith, wife Sharon Smith of Chesapeake, and Richard E. Smith of Virginia Beach. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William H. Smith and Vincent Conduff. Lee led a life of love and generosity to many. She was president of associations, owned businesses, and was successful in real estate. During her tenure as president of the Cosmetology Association, she was most determined to establish a Code of Ethics for the industry. While she has accomplished much, she leaves most a legacy of care for others. Her child like faith in God fueled her character. She leaves behind three grandchildren, Brian S. Grieves and his wife Helen, Bret Grieves and his wife Laurie, Brier Grieves and his wife Diane. Also surviving her are eight great-grandchildren, Brian, Caroline, John, Sam, Tyler, Kaylee, Will and Ben Grieves. The family would like to thank the precious caregivers, Lagrimas Bartolome, Joyce Webb and Sheryl Bennett. A celebration of life and worship service will be held at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, at 3 p.m. today followed by a burial in Eastern Shore Cemetery. Immediately following the burial, a reception for friends will be held at Princess Anne Country Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Young Life Virginia Beach, 580 Lynnhaven Parkway, Virginia Beach, VA 23452 or Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, 1917 Artic Ave., Virginia Beach, VA 23451. As Lee often said, she lived many lives in her lifetime; and she lived all of them to the fullest. More important, she enriched the lives of those she knew. I count myself among those richly blessed to have known her the past 30 years. Thank you, Lee, and thank you everyone who, in her last years, helped her and returned the love she spread all her life.

Lee was an Remarkable Lady with a zest for life. It seemed like she was always spreading her smile! I'll never forget when my son was born, Gran came to the hospital delivery room. When the nurse said family only, she proudly responded, "Well I'm the Grandmother!"

Mrs. Smith was a second mother to me as I was growing up.

I thought of her often and remember how nice she was to me. I hope my long lost sister knows of her passing.
