Annabelle Adkins Obituary

Annabelle S. Adkins VIRGINIA BEACH - Annabelle Schnick "Pete" Adkins, 83, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home Aug. 18, 2009. A native of Saint Charles, Mo., she was born Aug. 21, 1925. She moved to Virginia after marrying Jimmy, her devoted husband of 63 years, who preceded her in death Aug. 17, 2006. Pete's passion in life was to love the Lord and provide a loving home for Jimmy and their six children. Pete will be remembered for her unconditional love and generosity. "Her door was always opened for home cooked meals and friendly conversation." A faithful and active member of the Salvation Army Church, she served in the League of Mercy Home League and as a Sunday school teacher in the nursing home class. She was voted Women of the Year in 1995 and will be remembered most for the many hours of fun and laughter she provided as head of the ceramics class. Left to cherish her memory are her six children, Carolyn Fournier of Virginia Beach, Perry Adkins of Princeton, W.Va., Mike Adkins of Chesapeake, David Adkins of Virginia Beach, Cindy Adkins, and Mark Adkins, both of Virginia Beach; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A special thanks to our extended family Evelyn, Ruth, Cassandra and Carla. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at the Salvation Army Church, 5516 Raby Road, Norfolk, VA 23502. The family will receive visitors in the church social hall following the service until 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army Church. Heartfelt condolences to the entire family. "Petey" was truly one of the finest people I have ever known. I will forever remember our trip to Vancouver, hours of scrabble and Pete always ready to go anywhere or try most anything once. I loved her...she will be missed greatly by all who were fortunate enough to have been her friend.
