Kathryn E. Emmitt

Kathryn E. Emmitt VIRGINIA BEACH - Kathryn Elizabeth Emmitt, 89, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 18, 2009, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born Aug. 14, 1920, in Akron, Ohio to the late William and Gertrude Eickleberry. Kathryn was a very active lady; she was employed by the Akron Board of Education for six years, enjoyed traveling, was a member of the Country Study Club, the Garden Gate Garden Club, and was active in the Tallmadge PTA. She loved to sew and do hand crafts especially knitting. After retiring, she and her husband enjoyed the Florida weather for 30 years before moving to Virginia Beach in 2005. Kathryn was a member of the First Congregational Church in Tallmadge, Ohio, and was presently a member of Bayside Christian Church. Kathryn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 68 years, Richard D. Emmitt of Virginia Beach; sons, William R. Emmitt and wife Ann of Tallmadge, Ohio, and David P. Emmitt and wife Gail of Stow, Ohio; daughter, Mary Kathryn North and husband Walter of Virginia Beach. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Michael Emmitt, Kristin Lally, Timothy Emmitt, Rebecca Emmitt, Amanda Ball and Sarah North; and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Bayside Christian Church, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Jim Christopher. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held in Tallmadge, Ohio, at a later date.
