Louise Martin Obituary

Louise C. Martin ELIZABETH CITY - Louise Chappell Martin, 73, of 1125 Azalea Trail, died peacefully to be with her Lord Aug. 20, 2009, in the comfort of her home. She was the daughter of the late Mac and Susan Chappell of Hertford, N.C. She was a waitress for more than 55 years at many local restaurants. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by a daughter, Karen Louise Martin-Rogers and husband David of Elizabeth City; two sons, John "Speck" Martin of Elizabeth City and Gary C. Martin and wife Janis Raby Martin of Suffolk; two sisters, Evelyn Benton of Norfolk and Delores Howell of Hertford, N.C.; a brother, Roy Chappell of Roper, N.C.; grandchildren, John Mitchell Hamrick, Tiffany Louise Hamrick, David Rogers Jr. and Dylan Rogers, all of Elizabeth City and Wayne Vick and wife Teresa of Williamsburg, Va., and Jason Vick of Norfolk; two great-grandchildren, Madison Vick and Meredith Vick; many nieces, nephews and loving and caring friends. She was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Elizabeth Martin Allums. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to Albemarle Hospital staff, Albemarle Hospice, Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, and all her doctors, nurses, caregivers and the many friends for their support during this journey. A memorial service will be Sunday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., with the Rev. C.D. White officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence and in the lobby of the funeral home immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 404 Jessup St., Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
