Bobby and I were friends since before we started the first grade together. I have many good memories of our times growing up. Dr. and Mrs. Broocke were great parents. We played cops and robers on bycycles , on the streets of Boykins, before starting school. We trie to keep up with our older brothere Harry and Earl. They were into sports and girls and we had to try and keep up. Then we stuck together all the way thru school. Bobby had a single barrel 20 gauge and I had a double barrel 12 gauge. We always traded guns when we went hunting, to the point we just kept them at our respective homes (right across the street). We hunted everything, especially rabbits, with Mutt K. and his dogs. Bobby worked at his dad's drug store and I worked at W S Peebles. Bobby started work younger than I, but I started at 14, had to get a permit from my parents to work, to keep up with Bobby. That is where we got the money to date. We double dated in high school, many times. Bobby's dad had a 1957 Buick 4 door hard top and my dad had a 1953 Olds 4 door. We took turns dating on these vehicles. We never dated on Saturday, we were both working then. We only dated Friday night and Sunday afternoon, but we drove those two cars from Norfolk to Roanoke Rapids to Richmond. We could burn up a tank of gas in one night. Dad told me once, he never worried about Bobby and I getting in trouble with a girl because we never had time with all the driving. I feel sure I could write a book on all of our experiences. That all started 66 years ago, time sure flys. I will miss you Bobby.
