Frank Combs Obituary

Frank Combs NORFOLK - Frank Combs, 83, of the 6400 block of Dove St., Norfolk, passed away in Sentara Leigh Hospital Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, after a long illness. He was born in Blackey, Ky., to the late William Combs and Sarah Maxey Combs. He served in the United States Naval Military, retiring in 1965 as petty officer second class and from the Naval Reserve in 1974. He was proudly baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 2000, and remained faithful until his death happily reflecting on God's promise of a resurrection and eternal life in paradise and the opportunity of seeing his beloved wife and son alive again in paradise. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by Mary Alice, his wife of 46 years; three brothers, Edward "Eddie" Combs, William "Bill" Combs and John Combs; also two sisters, Myrtle Thompson and Shirley Harris; his youngest child, Frankie N. Combs; and one step grandson, Marcus "Tuffy" Chew. He leaves to cherish his memory a sister, Barbara McCrary of Atlanta; two daughters, Diana (Vernon) Hines of Suffolk and Sarah Bond of Norfolk; seven stepchildren, Mary (Lamarr) Fallin of Chesapeake, Barbara (Joseph) Escoe and Charles (Betty) Chew of Norfolk, Gerald Chew of Douglasville, Ga., Ricki Chew of Chesapeake, Carolyn Jackson of Virginia Beach, and Gary (Annette) Chew of Norfolk; 18 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren. Frank will be interred next to his wife Mary and son Frankie at Riverside Memorial Park Indian River Road, Norfolk, Saturday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m. Family and friends will convene at 10 a.m. at 6423 Dove St., for the procession to the cemetery. The service will be at noon Saturday in Riddick Funeral Service, Norview Ave., Norfolk. Viewing is today, Aug. 28, at 2 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 4 to 7 p.m.
