Lawrence Butler Obituary

Lawrence E. Butler WILLIAMSBURG - Lawrence E. Butler of the 5300 block of Patriots Colony Drive died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at home. He was a native of Suffolk. He attended Virginia Military Institute and was a graduate of University of Alabama and Boston University. He retired from the U.S. Army June 30, 1974, attaining the rank of colonel after 24 years of service. His last service assignment was Fort Monroe, Va. He loved travel, good food, and the beach. Larry was survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Jessup Butler, native of South Hill, Va.; two sons, James Butler of Fairfax, Va., and Ralph Butler of Chesapeake; and two daughters, Mary Mitchell of Alpharetta, Ga., and Priscilla Tyndall of Paris, Texas; and 12 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Patriots Colony in Williamsburg. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Nelson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

I am so sorry to learn that Mr. Butler passed away. I hope your memories will provide you with some comfort during this difficult time. I so enjoyed my time with you and the other residents of Patriots Colony when I worked there in Resident Services.
