Lula Butler Obituary

Lula C. Butler PORTSMOUTH - Lula Catherine Butler, 91, of the 3500 block of Spence Road, died Aug. 31, 2009, in a local hospital. She was a resident of Portsmouth for 65 years. She was born in Orange County, Virginia, and was the daughter of the late Jesse and Maude Dobyns. Lula was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Butler and grandson, Jimmy Evans. Lula is survived by four daughters, Joan Pierce and husband Jerry of Chunchula, Ala., Shirley Bonnewell and husband Frank of Suffolk, and Bonnie Butler of Suffolk, and Patricia Butler of Portsmouth; four sons, E. Bruce Butler of Las Vegas, Nev., Thomas G. Butler and wife Peggy of Crawfordsville, Ind., David L. Butler and wife Elaine of Portsmouth, and William R. Butler of Norfolk; grandchildren, Brandon Butler, Michael Butler, Brian Butler, Rhonda Butler, Teresa Turner, Dickie Butler, Shawn Michael Miller, Chris Butler, Stacey Butler, Sherry Evans and Laura Doss; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a very special family friend, Rhonda Russell. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, in Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, by the Rev. Cliff Whitlock. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.snellingsfuneralhome.com.
