Stanley Hainer Obituary

Stanley Hainer VIRGINIA BEACH - Mr. Stanley Hainer, 74, passed away Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, after a brief illness. Stanley was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and graduated from Granby High School in January 1953. He was a certified typesetter and a principal in Donning Publishing. During his retirement he loved the beach, his bicycle riding, his grandchildren and fine wine. He traveled extensively and had very fond memories of his experiences. He was a member of Ohef Sholom Temple in Norfolk. He was predeceased by his first wife, Beverly Barr Hainer and daughter Cathy. Stanley is survived by his wife, Shirley Schulwolf Hainer; three sons, Jeff and wife Cheri and Steve, both of Virginia Beach and David of Hanover, Pa.; two stepsons, Sanford and wife Cindy of Austin, Texas and Marc and wife Amy of Alexandria; one stepdaughter, Laurie and husband Gebhard of New York, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Clay, Hayley, Mitchell, Molly, Zac, Lindsey and Ben; a sister-in-law, Shirley Hainer and two brothers-in-law, Stanley Barr and wife Ann and Alfred Schulwolf. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Rabbi Rosalin Mandelberg and Cantor Wally Schachet-Briskin. The family will be at Stanley's residence on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and request that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Cathy Hainer Book Fund Endowment Association at the Swem Library College of William and Mary, P.O. Box 8795, Williamsburg, VA 23187-8795. H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made to hdoliver.com.

Stanley was a wonderful neighbor and good friend. He will be missed. I always enjoyed my conversations with his Father about his life in the depression.
