M. Haynes Obituary

M. Victor Haynes PORTSMOUTH - M. Victor Haynes, 82, of Churchland, died Sept. 8, 2009. He was born May 13, 1927, in Gloucester, Va., the son of Mary B. Young and George Sutherland Young. He retired from combat systems at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Norfolk and Saint Andrew Lutheran Church in Churchland. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean A. Haynes; his two daughters, Buttons Boggs (Mary-Anne) and Marci Moorehead; his son, Victor "Skip" Haynes; six grandchildren, Nigel Haynes, Tobias Gonzales, Belle Boggs, Vincent Sky Boggs, John Dale Moorehead and Travis Moorehead; one great-grandchild, Kingston Haynes; and a host of other relatives and friends. Victor, known as "Papa" to his children and grandchildren, was active all his life. He loved fishing, golfing, bowling, fixing and inventing things, and spending time with his family. A memorial service will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel. Interment will be private. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to The American Cancer Society.

It has been too long since I have seen Mr. Haynes (and his family) but he left a memory on an impressionable 3rd grader of a man who loved life, his family and the piece sign necklace he always wore.
