Ellen Hozier Obituary

Ellen L. Collier Hozier CHESAPEAKE - Ellen L. Collier Hozier, 89, passed on to a better place Sept. 9, 2009. She was the widow of Charles Sydnor Hozier. "E," as she was known by those who loved her, was born in Gloucester County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Robert Mack and Lola Pearl Collier. "E" was predeceased by one sister, Maude C. Buchanan and two brothers, Herbert M. Collier and Clyde L. Collier. After retiring from the Hampton Roads Maritime Association with 28 years of service, "E" spent her years traveling with Syd. Upon Syd's death, she continued to stay active, traveling with family members. She loved to read, work on miscellaneous crafts and walk and shop with her special friend, Marge Walters of Virginia Beach. "E" was a member of Haygood United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach. Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Margaret C. Meekins of Hertford, N.C.; two brothers and their wives, M. Roy Collier (Shirley) of Chesapeake and Robert R. Collier (Laverne) of Port Orange, Fla.; sister-in-law, Doris B. Collier of Virginia Beach; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Graveside services will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery Sunday at 1 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, Chesapeake. The family extends their sincere thanks and gratitude to the Staff at Allzwell Assisted Living, Chesapeake, who for the last three years have shown "E" nothing but their love, support and understanding during her time of residence and illness. Also, Medi Home Health and Hospice staff have been extremely supportive with all our needs to make "E" comfortable at this time. Memorial donations may be made to Medi Home Health and Hospice, 1112-B Eden Way North, Chesapeake, VA 23320. For those who knew "E" before she became sick, you will recall she was always there for you when you needed help, or just wanted a hug, a kind word and a loving smile. "E" - we will miss you tremendously, love you forever, and you will never be forgotten. A true lady, sister and friend.

What a sweet person and such a special friend to my mother. They loved to walk and go shopping and she was so good for my mother. Our family sends their condolences.
