William Norfleet Obituary

William F. Norfleet SUFFOLK - William Franklin Norfleet, 86, of Suffolk, passed away Sept. 14, 2009. He was born in Nansemond County, the son of the late Abram E. Norfleet Sr. and Edla Archer Norfleet. He was predeceased by his first wife, Frances Juanita Warren Norfleet and brother, Robert A. Norfleet. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II and survived the Malmedy Massacre. William retired as a machinist from Lipton Tea Company where he was also a member of the Ambassador Club and loved every minute of it. He later went on to work more than 20 years as a dedicated and loyal funeral assistant for Hill Funeral Home and Parr Funeral Home. He was a life member of Western Branch Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class and served as a deacon. He attended Wilroy Baptist Church. He was also a life and charter member of Kings Fork Ruritan Club. William is survived by his beloved wife of six years, Zada C. Norfleet; daughters, Laurie Wise and husband Garland "Bubba" of Suffolk, Vickie Gay Sadler of Virginia Beach; stepdaughters, Loretta Ellis and husband William, Lorene Harrell and husband Jimmie; stepson, Earl Grove, all of Suffolk; grandchildren and spouses, William Wise (Stacey), Joseph Wise (Dorothy), Benjamin Wise (Liezel), Keith Chappell, Kevin Chappell, and Kayla Sadler, Teresa Nurney (Art), Marie Goodrich (Bobby), Kelly Bailey (Randy), Jennifer Cochran (Chad), Justin Ellis, Ronnie Harrell (Amber), Kara Maskelony (John); 13 great- grandchildren; sisters, Doris N. Bailey of Franklin, Marianna Whitley and husband Bobby of Smithfield, Va., Margaret N. Saunders of Suffolk; brother, Abe Norfleet Jr. and wife Betty of Stoney Creek, Va. A funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, with Tim Rawls officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Western Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to the Western Branch Baptist Church Building Fund at 6952 Old Myrtle Road, Suffolk, VA 23434. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
