Donald Turner Obituary

Donald Bruce Turner NEWPORT NEWS - Donald Bruce Turner, 69, passed away peacefully Sept. 17, 2009, at his home in the presence of his family. He was born in Nansemond County, Virginia, May 16, 1940, the son of the late Vernon L. and Grace E. (Nurney) Turner. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Anne, Thelma and Ellen and a brother, Raymond. He was employed by Northrop Grumman, and subsequently retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard in 2007 with 19 years of service. Donnie was a patient, kind and loving man. He enjoyed reading, softball, NASCAR, gardening and vacationing at the Outer Banks with his large family. He is survived by his wife, Anita; daughters, Becci and Stephanie of West Virginia; brother, Vernon Turner and wife Sue of Suffolk; sister, Mary Stanley and husband Robert of Virginia Beach; brother, Wayne Turner; and his special friend, Holly of Newport News. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who truly loved their "Uncle Donnie." A funeral will be conducted Monday at 3 p.m. in R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory by the Rev. Russell Leonard. Burial will be in Whiteheads Grove Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 604 Constance Woods Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434.
