Elizabeth Weddle Obituary

Elizabeth B. Weddle VIRGINIA BEACH - Elizabeth Bateman Weddle, 70, cherished wife, mother, sister, nanny, aunt and friend, went to be with the Lord Sept. 18, 2009. Mrs. Weddle was born in North Carolina to the late Lewis Samuel and Leona Browning Bateman. She was a faithful member of Kempsville Church of Christ where she was secretary for the mission's ministry team for more than 30 years. Elizabeth and husband Walter were married in 1956, which was the first marriage performed in Coleman Place/ Kempsville Church of Christ. Elizabeth was a dedicated homemaker and sales representative for Avon. Mrs. Weddle was predeceased by a brother, Richard Bateman; daughter-in-law, Angela Weddle; and brother- in-law, Pete Penello; and is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Walter A. Weddle; five children, Debra Lane and husband Allen, Walter "Jay" Weddle Jr., Larry Weddle, Lori Sellers and husband Terry, and Steven Weddle; five grandchildren, Anthony "Neil" Sellers, Millie Lane, Morgan Sellers, Gavin Weddle and Tara Sellers; brothers, Sammy Bateman and wife Ann, Lew Bateman and wife Barbara; two sisters, Patricia Penello and Pamela Stalls; many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers of Sentara Leigh Hospital and especially Dr. Zarate. The visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m. in Kempsville Church of Christ, 5424 Parliament Drive, Virginia Beach. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. Join the family for a reception at the church following the burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Kempsville Church of Christ Mission's Ministry Fund.
