Hattie Shope Obituary

Hattie Mae Moore Shope PORTSMOUTH - Hattie Mae Moore Shope, 88, formerly of Gloucester Avenue, Portsmouth, went to be with the Lord Sept. 22, 2009, in Chesapeake. A native of Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late John W. Moore Sr. and Harriet Francis Moore. She was the wife of the late William L. Shope and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and attended Fairview Heights Baptist Church, Portsmouth, on Sunday nights. She worked many years in the credit departments of W. G. Swartz Department Store and Hofheimer's Shoe Stores from which she retired. She is survived by a brother, John Wesley Moore Jr. and wife Dorothy of Virginia Beach; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Moore Ballard and a brother, Harry Lee Moore. A funeral will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Finley Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and at 921 Old Homestead Lane, Virginia Beach, at all other times. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 437 Providence Road, Chesapeake, VA 23325 or Union Mission Ministries, 130 Brooke Ave., Norfolk, VA 23510. Dear Gene,
Thinking of you. Remembering Hattie Mae's smile and loving expression she showered on you.She is finally at peace.All those Sunday School pins has surely put a big smile on our Lords face! We will always remember her and rejoice that she is in his presents. I know the Lord also rejoices in your loving care for her in good days and bad. Love, Irene and Jim
