Redell Collins Obituary

Redell Jack Collins Jr. PORTSMOUTH - Redell Jack Collins Jr., 91, formerly of Portsmouth, passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at the VA Hospital in Hampton. He was the husband of Evelyn Daughtry Collins. Born in Portsmouth, he was the son of the late Redell and Anna Artis Collins. He was a 30-year veteran of the United States Navy and captain of security guards at Norfolk Naval Shipyard for 17 years. A loving father and grandfather, he is survived by daughter, Renee Peerman (James) and son, Alton Collins (Sandra); four grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; two sisters, Anna L. Collins and Eloise C. Hall; nieces, nephews and other relatives. A funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. in Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Leroy Hill presiding. Interment will be in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. Viewing will begin Friday at noon. The body will be in the church Saturday at 10 a.m. The family will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make monetary donations to the American Heart Association. Fisher Funeral Home, 1520 Effingham St., Portsmouth, is handling the arrangements.
