Dorothy Davis Obituary

Dorothy P. Davis PORTSMOUTH - Dorothy P. Davis of the 1400 block of Welcome Road passed away peacefully Sept. 24, 2009, in Sentara Home Care. She was the widow of the late Rev. Willie Lee Davis Sr. She was born July 15, 1925, in Whaleyville, Va., as the only child to the late Earl and Ruth Parker. Mrs. Davis graduated from East Suffolk High School and attended the Norfolk Division of Virginia State College (Norfolk State University), majoring in elementary education. At a very early age and her adult life, she played the piano and organ for various churches. Mrs. Davis was a devoted wife, mother, and church member. Past affiliations include The Ministers Wives and Widows Alliance of Tidewater, a member of the Deaconess Board, and The Thrifty Ten Club of First Baptist Church, South Portsmouth. She is cherished in memory by her three loving children, Joyce D. Reavis (James), Haroleen D. Ray, and Willie Lee Davis Jr. of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Shawn L. Reavis, Jamill R. Jones (Bryan), Hope R. Porter (Clayton), and Crystal D. Henderson (Ray); and four great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church, South Portsmouth, with the Rev. Warren Amlet officiating. Interment will follow in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held in Corprew Funeral Home.
