Wayne Edison Obituary

Wayne J. Edison NORFOLK - Wayne Jacob Edison, a devout Baptist, was born Oct. 30, 1922, in Olive Hill, Ky., and passed away Sept. 25, 2009, at 86 years of age, in his home with loved ones by his side. He served in the United States Navy for 20 years and was a veteran of World War II. Wayne retired as a chief gunners mate on July 1, 1960. Following his military service, Wayne continued public service as a member of the U.S. postal service for an additional 20 years. Wayne is survived by his dear friend, Gaye McGinn; her daughters, Charlotte McGinn, Linda Porter and husband Rod and Bonnie McGinn; three grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. He also leaves behind a daughter, Debbie Hanson and husband Vernon of Birmingham, Ala.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and daughter-in-law, Anita Edison of Virginia Beach. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Pearle and their son, Dwayne Edison. Wayne was a member of the 60 plus club, the Masonic Lodge, Elk Lodge, Moose Lodge, Fleet Reserve, American Legion, and the VFW. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 818 Norview Ave., Norfolk, VA 23509, with inurnment to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home. For directions, please call (757) 855-5558.
