Joseph Fazio Obituary

Joseph J. Fazio VIRGINIA BEACH - Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:6 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. John 14:2 These were the beliefs of Joseph J. Fazio who died peacefully at age 86 surrounded by his family on Oct. 10, 2009. Beloved husband of his wife Norma of 63 years, he is also survived by his five children, Philip (Mary), Teresa (Ed), Monica (Jim), Claire (Bill) and Steve (Michael); four grandchildren, Joe (Jessica), Michael (Sharyn), Steve (Shelly) and Bonnie (Bart); 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. His surviving brothers and sisters are Frances (Richard), Josephine, Antoinette (Frank), and Rocco (Carol). He was predeceased by parents, Rocco and Vincenza; his brother, Mario; brother-in- law, Harold; and grandson, Paul. "Joe" retired as a chief petty officer in the Navy after 21 years and again after a 20-year civil service career. He was a World War II veteran and a survivor of the Battle of Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway. He served on a total of five carriers and was stationed aboard USS Yorktown when it was sunk during the Battle of Midway on June 7, 1942. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach. A funeral will be held at Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, at 10:30 a.m. today, Oct. 13. Burial will follow at Princess Anne Memorial Park, 1110 N. Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach. The family would like to thank Dr. Le and the dedicated caregivers at Sentara Nursing Center at Sentara Way in Virginia Beach and also Sentara Hospice Care.
