George Moran Obituary

George R. Moran NORFOLK - George R. Moran, 86, of Norfolk and formerly of Floyd County, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family and country. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Flossie Moran; a son, Jimmy Moran; a daughter, Connie Congleton; a son, Bob Moran and wife Jackie; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Tim, Sean and Ryan. He was a veteran of World War II and spent 18 months overseas fighting in the South Pacific with Company A, 52nd Combat Engineers. He retired from the Norfolk and Western Railway in 1985 after more than 35 years of service. Arrangements in Norfolk are by Hollomon Brown Funeral Home. Visitation in Roanoke will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Oakey's South Chapel, 4257 Brambleton Ave., Roanoke, VA 24018, (540) 989-3131. The funeral will be at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2009. The Rev. Maurice Wright will officiate. Interment will follow in Rest Vale Cemetery, Floyd County. Military honors by Floyd VFW Post 7854 and American Legion No. 127. The family requests that memorials be made to the COPD Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
