Howard Guess Obituary

Howard Guess NORFOLK - Howard Guess, a native of Norfolk and a longtime resident of Pennsylvania and Mount Laurel, N.J., passed away Oct. 10, 2009, at the age of 77. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, he graduated from The College of William & Mary. Mr. Guess began his career as a CPA, working for Lybrand, Ross Brothers & Montgomery Accounting Firm; then, at the personal business office of the Estate of J.N. Pew, deceased. Later, he formed his own accounting office, Howard Guess & Associates. He served as treasurer and a board director of Glenmede Trust Company and Kimberton Farm School, a founding member and partner of Stonewall Golf Club, and also, a founding member of French Creek Golf Club, both in Elverson, Pa. Mr. Guess was a member of Ramblewood Civic Association, chairman of Camping, Boy Scouts of America, Troop 76 in Mount Laurel, Eagles fan and season ticketholder for more than 35 years. He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Florence (nee Gillikin); loving father of Howard O. Guess Jr., JD and his wife Andrea and her daughter, Alexandria; brother of Betty Guess Williams and her husband James; brother- in-law of Dr. Ross Gillikin; and survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral will be conducted Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from noon until service time. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon- brown.com.

Approximately 33 years ago, the Treasurer of Kimberton Farms School was due to visit the school. The employees were all put on alert. Not only was I a new employee, it was my first job and being quite young, wasn't I surprised when Mr. Guess came into the business office carrying his "Burger King lunch"! I was priviledged to be offered a job in Howard's accounting firm and am honored that he continued to be a friend and mentor to me throughout my professional career. Jon and I will miss him. Florence and Howard, Jr. you are in our thoughts and prayers.
