Donald MacDougall Obituary

Donald MacDougall VIRGINIA BEACH - Retired Lt. Cmdr. Donald Bent MacDougall, 84, died Oct. 8, 2009, after a lengthy illness. A native of Michigan, he was born in Detroit Nov. 27, 1924. He was predeceased by his parents, Donald Angus MacDougall and Dorothy MacDougall Agle. Mac enlisted in the Navy in 1941 and traveled the world in a career spanning 30 years. Upon retirement, he worked briefly for Newport News Shipyard and was later employed for many years by QED Systems. Mac is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jo Ann; two sons, Donald Bruce of Virginia Beach and Daniel Allen and wife Sharon of Charlottesville, Va.; five grandchildren, Meghann and husband Wes Evans of Castle Rock, Colo., Kaitlin and husband James Baker of Virginia Beach, Alex, William and Philip of Charlottesville; a great- grandson, James Baker Jr.; a sister, Barbara Wamsley of Waterford, Mich.; and a nephew, Lawrence Wamsley and family of Ponte Vedra, Fla. A lover of all animals, Mac took great pleasure in the companionship of his cats, Winston and Monty. In healthier times, he delighted in entertaining his grandchildren, enjoyed family outings, golf, and found great pleasure with his friends. The Rev. Robert Randall will officiate at a graveside service Friday, Oct. 23, at 3:30 p.m. at Old Donation Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to Old Donation Episcopal Church, 4449 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia beach, VA 23455 or to a charity of one's choice. The Cremation Society of Virginia is assisting the family.

Mac will always be remembered as the perfect gentleman and a warm person.Enjoyed all the good times and dances.

My big brother - how I will miss you! Especially your spontaneous phone calls when you would say "Winston is calling to talk to Missy" and I'd reply, "sorry, she's taking a nap" And we'd have a good laugh. I love you Bubba.....Sis

Unfortunately it always seems we never communicate except at those occassions of our greatest happiness or sadness.

My very fond memories of my Uncle Don will stay with me forever. To Danny and Bruce and Aunt Joann my sincere best wishes and condolences on your loss.

Let's not let this be the last and only way we reach out to family.
