Kathryn Lawrence Obituary

Kathryn L. Lawrence VIRGINIA BEACH - Kathryn L. Lawrence, wife of retired U.S. Navy Capt. Edward Lawrence, died Oct. 19, 2009. Kay and Ed married in 1944, traveled extensively throughout their military career and retirement, and settled in Virginia Beach in 1967. She was an active volunteer for many organizations throughout her life as well as an educator. Besides her husband, she is survived by their five children, Eloise, Stephen (Theresa), Mary Ellen (Rocky), Anne (Hans) and Katie; as well as 10 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by their son, James. She was one of six children and is survived by her sister, Patricia Howard of Livingston, N.J., and Robert McCarty (Jill) of Clarks Green, Pa.; along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, Thursday, Oct. 22, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. There will be a Mass of the Resurrection at Church of the Holy Family Catholic Church, 1279 N. Great Neck Road, at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Friends of the Virginia Beach Public Library, 4100 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23452 or Heartland Hospice, 5029 Corporate Woods Drive, Suite 200, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. The family would like to thank all the compassionate people who cared for Mrs. Lawrence over the last few years. Online condolences may be made to the family at hdoliver.com.
