Marshall Howell Obituary

Leon Howell EURE - Marshall Leon Howell, 73, of the 100 block of White Oak Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Mr. Howell was born in Gates County and was the son of the late Lamb and Etta Smith Howell. A retired farmer, he was a lifetime member of the Gates County Rescue Squad and for many years served as its captain. He was a charter member of the Ray's Beach Fishing Club and a member of Eure Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Angeline Vann Howell; and infant siblings, Charlie and Betty Howell. Surviving are his daughter, Debra H. Earley; his sister, Lettie Askew; and his granddaughter, Ashley Lauren Earley, all of Eure. A funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, by the Rev. Wayne Gardner. Burial will follow in the Howell Family Cemetery at the home. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at the home of his sister, 129 White Oak Road, Eure. Floral tributes are welcomed or contributions may be made to the Gates County Rescue Squad 016 , U.S. Highway 158 E., Gatesville, NC 27938 or to any of the Gates County Volunteer Fire departments.
