Viola Rasey

Viola H. Rasey NEWPORT NEWS - Viola Harriett Rasey, 79, formerly of Newport News and Middlesex County, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, in Sentara Nursing Center in Chesapeake. Mrs. Rasey was a retired school teacher. She received a teaching certificate from Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Mich. She taught in Newport News at While Away Child Care and in Middlesex County at Wilton Elementary School where she also operated a private school, Rasey's Kindergarten. Her husband Harold A. Rasey Jr. preceded her in death. She is survived by three daughters, Roxie Rasey Nicoll and her husband Jeff of Fairfax, Va., Trixie A. Rasey and her husband Douglas Leto of Franklin Lakes, N.J., Tracey Rasey Scott and husband Michael of Chesapeake; a son, Harold A. Rasey III of Ellington, Conn.; seven grandchildren, David, Beth, Seneca, Roni, Megan, Mary Kate and MacKenna; two sisters, Violet Brown and Vivene Wilson; and two brothers, Virgil and Verlo Tillottson all of Michigan. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3570 King William Ave., West Point, Va. Burial will follow in St. Theresa Cemetery. A rosary will be held tonight at 6 p.m. in Vincent Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 417 11th St., West Point, Va., and the family will receive friends to 8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Reading is Fundamental Development Office, 1825 Connecticut Ave. N.W., Suite 400, Washington, DC 20009.
