Carlton Jackson Obituary

Carlton E. Jackson Jr. CHESAPEAKE - Carlton Edwin Jackson Jr., 87, passed away Oct. 24, 2009. Mr. Jackson was the son of the late Carlton E. Jackson Sr. and Katherine Gilmore Jackson. He was born in Sanford, N.C., and resided in Chesapeake all of his adult life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from civil service after 33 years of service and was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church. He loved camping, fishing, bowling and tinkering with cars. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley Critz Jackson; a daughter, Helen "Diane" Massey and husband Terry of Chesapeake; a brother, William "W.G." Gilmore Jackson of Virginia Beach; a sister, Betty Rue Sykes of Mebane, N.C.; two grandchildren, Stephen Carlton Massey Sr. and fiancée Tiffany of Norfolk and Heather Marie Larson and husband Chris of Chesapeake; seven great- grandchildren, Stephen C. Massey Jr., Anthony Ty Massey, Matthew Michael Larson, Christian Alexander Larson, Zachary Thomas Larson, Keirsten Alexis Nicole Larson, and Emily Grace Elizabeth Larson; several nieces and nephews; many other loving family and friends. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norview Chapel, where a funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Nathan Brown. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. Friends may send condolences to www.mem.com.

I met Carl and Shirley through Shirley's sister Jean Critz Jones, and remember what a nice couple they were. Carl had a great sense of humor. My sympathy to Shirley and the family on Carl's passing.
