Not sure what to say?

November 4, 2009

It has been a while since I had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Koonce, however, the small amount of time that I did spend with him years ago will always stick with me. I wish his children the best during this difficult time. I know that his legacy will live through them.

Vickie and Family,
Please know that Dr. Koonce's Hickory High School family misses him terribly and we are holding you all in our thoughts and prayers daily. He was a great blessing to this world and I would like to think that the world was a better place because of his presence here. I know he made a profound influence on me by showing how much he loved educating our youth, and how much he loved people and life in general. I'm sorry I did not get to know him longer. God bless you all and may God speed your healing by filling your hearts and minds with beautiful memories of the love he felt for all of you.

Hi Woody,

I did not have the opportunity to work with you directly, but did work with your brother Glenn. Just talking to Glenn made me feel as though I've known you for awhile. You have now graduated with the Angels and singing in God's heavenly choir with your mom (incidentally, you'll probably see my dad and brother there--tell them I said hello). Your Hickory and Regent families will always love and cherish your memories.

Rest in Peace,

October 28, 2009

Vickie, Michael and I send all our love and prayers to you. Woody was such a wonderful addition to our family, and we will all miss him. Didn't he love to go to the farm and get around the table? We have some great memories of that. And then, of course, he and Michael would get in recliners and snooze it off. I hope all the precious times that you had with him will comfort you as you go forward. He just had to go too soon, didn't he?

We love you,
Brenda and Michael

Christy and Tracy,
Your Dad was a sweet sweet man. The night my Mom passed away your Dad drove in the middle of the night all the way to Nags Head to try and find my brother for us. I will never forget that kindness. My heart breaks for you both.

Vickie, Donald, Glenn, Linda, Woody's children and grandchildren, my heartfelt sypathy and prayers are with you and your families. Woody was like a big brother to me as well as a good friend. He always had a great big smile and a hug for me. I am so proud of his accomplishments but I am proudest of how he took on the cancer. He fought his way back to Hickory High School and made sure he was there to hand out diplomas at graduation in June. My daughter was one of those fortunate graduates and I'll always cherish the photo of Woody presenting her diploma to her. My memories of Woody go all the way back to the Great Bridge ball fields in the 60's and 70's, when Great Bridge was still a small town. I will miss him terribly but God knew what was best. Take Care and may God bless and keep all of you.

To the family of Dr. Woody Koonce,

Dr. Koonce was a great man on so many levels. While the cancer may have claimed his physical self, it could never touch his kindred spirit, which will live on in each of us who remain behind. May you find strength and faith in the days that lie ahead.
